Finding Aids
Description
Finding aids describe and identify the location of selected significant collections of materials held by the College Archives.
Inventory
Only nineteen finding aids have been mounted so far. For a list of many other collections in the Hamilton College Archives, see our Archives database, or email askarch@hamilton.edu about them.
Background
Finding aids are documents containing detailed information about a specific collection of papers or records within an archive. A finding aid includes bibliographic information, identification of the owning archive, and my also include provenance of the material, subject matters covered, and an inventory of the individual items.
Finding aids for online presentation are often encoded in Encoded Archival Description (EAD) as they are here.
Compilation
The information for these finding aids was compiled by Jeremy P. Schmidt '02, Archives Intern, Summer 2001.
Encoding
The finding aids are EAD encoded by Peter MacDonald of the Hamilton College Systems Department in 2003.
